“It’s supposed to be better if I’m turned on,” Jessica said.

“I know.” Val laughed. “But, Jess, the doctor is on her way in,” she whispered as if they weren’t the only ones in the examination room.

“Babe, it’s a doctor’s office. When you make an appointment for eight, that really means eight-fifteen.” She paused as she glanced toward the closed door. “I don’t need you to get me off. You did plenty of that last night. I need you to get me turned on.”

“You used to get turned on at just the sight of me. Should I be worried?”

Val slid a hand under her wife’s blue exam gown and moved it up her thigh. Her legs were already spread, awaiting the doctor’s arrival. Val’s hand stopped just inside Jessica’s thigh.

“Maybe if you were wearing a tux, I’d–”

Val cut her off by moving her fingers onto Jessica’s clit.

“Seems like you’re already a little turned on, at least,” she said as she slid her fingers through the wetness that awaited her. “Is this leftover from this morning? You came in the shower, but should I have given you a little more attention?”

“No,” Jessica said on a gasp. “It’s because I knew this would happen. I knew you’d touch me. It’s the anticipation of it that…”

“That what?” Val asked as she slid two fingers inside her wife.

“Fuck,” Jessica said softly.

“Don’t come, Jessica,” Val instructed, using her thumb to graze over Jessica’s clit.

“It’s hard. You feel so good,” Jessica said as Val slid in and out of her slowly. “Put your mouth on me. I want you down there.”

“No way,” Val replied, laughing. “This isn’t the L Word, babe. I’m not going to have the doctor walk in on us with my–”

“Good morning,” the doctor said as soon as she opened the door, and Val stopped moving her hand.

They weren’t exactly facing the door, but even with the gown draped over Jessica’s spread legs, the doctor had a good shot of what they’d been doing.

“And I can see that it is so far,” she added with a cheeky smile.

“Sorry,” Val said, sliding her fingers out of her wife and wiping them on the bed between her legs before taking a step back.

“No need.” The doctor laughed. “You’re hardly the first couple I’ve walked in on. Plus, some studies have shown that it helps, so let’s get this going. Are we ready?” she asked Jessica.

“Yes,” Jessica said.

Val watched as the blush on her wife’s cheeks slowly faded, and the doctor began her work. When the doctor talked Jessica through what was about to happen, Val stepped over to the sink and washed her hands before she returned to Jessica’s side, clasped her hand, and looked into her eyes.

“I love you,” she said, kissing the woman’s forehead.

“I love you, too,” Jessica replied.

When they arrived home later, Jessica went straight to the bedroom and lay down. She believed that being at peace would help the process, so Val lit a few lavender-scented candles and turned on some soft music in the background.
